General Airport Information
Lisbon Airport is the main gateway to the Portuguese capital. Humberto Delgado Airport, as it is officially named, or Portela Airport, as it is often called, is located a 20-minute drive from Lisbon city center, at a 7-km distance from the heart of the city. LIS Airport is an old aviation hub consisting of two terminal buildings. Nevertheless, it serves more than 57 airlines and numerous destinations all over the world. In fact, in 2019, more than 31 million passengers chose it as their departure or arrival airport. However, the airport seems to have reached its limits. Thus, a further expansion of the existing airport as well as a new airport construction was decided yet has never been in motion.
Terminals
The vast majority of flights, as well as all the main full-service air carriers, are being served by T1 of Lisbon Airport. T1 is the terminal housing the actual shopping and dining center of the airport, along with a wide variety of services and amenities. Nevertheless, LIS Airport consists of 2 terminals. Thus, T2 is a much smaller building, hosting only the departures of the low-cost airlines operating in Lisbon.
